Arrive at any time. There are no planned activities until the Welcome Meeting in the evening. The nearest airport is Puerto Princesa International Airport (PPS).
Consider arriving 1-2 days early to explore the city, adjust to the time zone, and buffer against flight delays. We can request extra hotel nights for you before the program begins.
Hotel Check-in and Welcome Meeting
Hotel check-in is normally between 2–3 p.m. Check with reception for the exact time and location of the group welcome meeting, typically between 6–7 p.m. Please make every effort to attend this meeting. If you’re running late, send a message in the group WhatsApp or call the emergency number on your trip voucher so that your tour leader can let you know where and when to meet the group.
After the meeting, head into the mangrove forest for a firefly watching tour, where thousands of glowing insects light up the trees under the night sky.
- Joining Instructions
- Pre-Booked Arrival Transfer: If you purchased a transfer with us, look for a G Adventures representative with a sign displaying your name at the arrivals welcome area. If you are not met or cannot make contact, call the emergency number on your trip voucher or take a taxi to the hotel (save your receipt).
- Taxi: (₱170-210 PHP / ~$3-4 USD | ~10-15 min depending on traffic) Taxis are generally available outside the arrivals area. If you don’t see a taxi right away, you can ask airport staff where the taxi stand is located. Ride-hailing apps (like Grab) are not reliably available in Puerto Princesa. Tricycles (similar to Thai tuk-tuks) are actually the dominant local transport.
In the morning, visit the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature. Take a boat ride through the underground river, exploring its 8.2-kilometer cave system, towering limestone formations, and diverse wildlife, including bats, swallows, and unique flora.
In the afternoon, drive north to Port Barton, a small, peaceful town along Palawan’s coast. Known for its crystal-clear waters and quiet beaches, Port Barton is perfect for relaxing or visiting nearby German Island or White Beach. You’ll have the chance to unwind and enjoy the atmosphere before continuing your adventure.
Approximate travel time: 4 hrs by private vehicle
Meals included: Breakfast | Lunch
In the morning, board a boat for an island-hopping adventure around the stunning coastline of Port Barton. Spend the day exploring unspoiled beaches, snorkeling in crystal-clear waters, and keeping an eye out for sea turtles. During your adventure, you’ll enjoy a lunch on one of these magical islands.
In the evening, head back to Port Barton and unwind at one of the local beach bars. Enjoy the relaxed vibe, sip on a cold drink, and take in the sounds of live music from local bands. The small-town atmosphere comes alive at night, with the soothing rhythm of acoustic guitars and traditional Filipino tunes filling the air. Whether you’re enjoying the beach or the lively night scene, it’s the perfect way to end your day.
Meals included: Breakfast | Lunch
Today, we’re traveling by private vehicle from Port Barton to El Nido. Upon arrival, head to the village of Sibaltan for a visit to the Sibaltan Heritage House. You’ll join local women for a hands-on cooking demonstration and tasting session, as you discover the secret to traditional cuisine.
After lunch, take part in a cultural experience with the community. Learn local songs and dances, and observe Cuyonon artisan weaving using natural materials like pandan and buri leaves. This experience supports sustainable tourism and helps preserve the cultural heritage of the region.
Approximate travel time: 3 hrs by private vehicle
Meals included: Breakfast | Lunch
Spend the day cruising through the breathtaking seascapes of El Nido on a private island-hopping adventure. Set out across Bacuit Bay, known for its limestone karst cliffs, bright turquoise water, and hidden lagoons. Stop at spots like Secret Beach, tucked behind a narrow rock opening, and Hidden Beach, surrounded by towering cliffs. Swim and snorkel through coral reefs teeming with life—keep an eye out for sea turtles, clownfish, and even the occasional stingray gliding beneath the surface.
In between swims, relax on the deck or on the soft white sand of a secluded beach. A freshly prepared lunch will be served on board. Then soak in the scenery and listen to stories about El Nido’s geography and history from the crew. After a full day of sun, saltwater, and exploring, head back to shore in the late afternoon and settle in for another peaceful night in Lio Beach.
Meals included: Breakfast | Lunch
Spend your last full day in El Nido however you’d like. Relax on the beach, explore town, or head out on one final adventure. Hike up the jagged limestone cliffs of Taraw Peak for a dramatic panoramic view over Bacuit Bay—just be ready for a steep, hands-on climb. Or take a trip to Kuyawyaw Falls, a series of jungle waterfalls with fresh pools for swimming and cliff-jumping.
Whether you’re chasing waterfalls or just soaking up the sun, today’s yours to slow down and take it all in before heading home.
Meals included: Breakfast
There are no planned activities today, so you may depart El Nido at any time. If you wish to extend your stay, consider booking post-tour accommodation with us.
Please note that check-out time from the hotel is usually mid-morning, but luggage storage services are available at the reception desk.
Meals included: Breakfast

Trip Notes & Expectations
ACCOMMODATION
Our program fees are based on double-occupancy accommodation (see “Single Travelers” below if you do not have a travel companion and would be interested in a private room). Our accommodations are selected for safety, cleanliness, and convenient locations. While they are comfortable and well-suited for group travel, they are generally simple rather than luxury properties in order to keep the program affordable.
TRANSPORTATION
We use a mix of transportation that gets our guests from location to location safely. Sometimes you will have full days and nights of transportation as our trips tend to cover a lot of ground. The transportation will often be an adventure in itself.
LUGGAGE
Pack light and bring compact and lightweight luggage that you can easily transport. The carrying of your luggage remains your responsibility at all times.
ACTIVITY LEVEL & PACE
This trip should be appropriate for most travelers. There is light walking and hiking suitable for most fitness levels and nothing too challenging. Many of our programs occur in locations where it is very hot during the day. Please make sure you have thoroughly read the itinerary and can handle the group activities, which sometime include day hikes with your daypacks. We recommend always carrying snacks with you. Meals can sometimes be far apart.
ILLEGAL DRUGS
Illegal drugs will not be tolerated on any trips. Possessing or using drugs not only contravenes the laws of the land but also puts the rest of the group at risk. Smoking marijuana and opium is a part of local culture in some parts of the world but is not acceptable for our travelers. Our philosophy of travel is one of respect towards everyone we encounter and in particular the local people who make the world the special place it is. The exploitation of people in the sex trade is completely contrary to this philosophy. Our tour leaders have the right to expel any member of the group if drugs are found in their possession or if they utilize the services of paid sex workers, in any capacity.
GROUP LEADER
All GEEO programs are led by a G Adventures Chief Experience Officer (CEO), whose role is to take the hassle out of travel and help you get the most from your trip. They’ll share information about the places you visit, suggest activities and restaurants, and introduce you to our local friends. While not traditional guides, CEOs have broad knowledge of the region’s history, culture, and daily life. On some excursions, local guides are used for deeper insight.
Single Travelers
Traveling solo? You’re in good company—about half of our participants do the same.
Shared room by default. The program fee covers one person in a twin room. We’ll pair you with a roommate of the same gender if you don’t have a travel companion.
Want a private room? Most trips offer a “My Own Room” (single-supplement) upgrade. Check the price in the Extra Services section, then email travel@geeo.org to reserve it. You pay the single-supplement only if you request it.

Packing List
See our blog post of staff-recommended gear to help you pack for your upcoming travels. You must be able to carry your own luggage—up stairs, on and off of transport, and during 15 to 20 minute walks. Bring one small or medium backpack or rolling bag (22-30lb) and one daypack for daily items. Space is limited on transportation, so oversized bags cannot travel.
As you prepare your packing list, we recommend checking average weather conditions for your destination.
- Casual clothes for hot weather (shorts and t-shirts)
- 1 conservative outfit – clothing that covers knees and shoulders (long pants, long skirts, shirts that cover shoulders)

*Laundry: Laundry facilities are offered by some of our hotels for a charge. You can also use a local laundromat, if necessary. If you want to do your own laundry, we suggest you bring your own non-polluting/biodegradable soap.
Passports and Visas
Travelers are responsible for securing all required travel documents and meeting the entry requirements for every country on their itinerary, including applicable transit/layover countries.
PASSPORT
All travelers must have a passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your trip dates with enough blank pages for stamps. Need to apply or renew? Start here.
ENTRY/VISA REQUIREMENTS
Visa rules change frequently—always verify the latest requirements on the U.S. State Department Country Information Pages. Non-U.S. passport holders should verify requirements with your country’s official government resources. You can also use Sherpa, a third-party service and trusted G Adventures partner to look up the latest requirements.
Money Exchange
The local currency in the Philippines is the Philippine Peso (PHP). For current exchange rates, visit www.xe.com.
Credit/Debit Cards: Credit cards (especially Visa and Mastercard) are accepted at many hotels, shops, and restaurants, but not everywhere. Some vendors may also charge an international transaction fee, so check with your bank before you travel.
Cash: For small purchases, tipping, or places that don’t take cards, we recommend using ATMs to withdraw local currency while traveling. If you bring U.S. dollars to exchange, the bills must be new, unmarked, and in excellent condition—damaged or older notes are often rejected.
Emergency Funds: Bring at least $200 USD (or the equivalent in local currency) in cash for emergencies in case of ATM or card issues. Always carry more rather than less to avoid feeling short of funds while traveling.
See the Estimated Trip Costs section at the bottom of this page for budgeting guidance.
For more advice, see our post, Smart Travel Finances: Your Guide to Money, ATMs, Fees, and Safety Abroad
Tipping
Tipping is optional but appreciated and goes a long way for the people who look after you on the trip. If you are happy with the service, use these ballpark amounts and adjust as you see fit:
– Service providers/Waiters: 10% of the bill.
– Local guides and drivers: $1.50-3.50 USD per person per day.
– G Adventures tour leader (CEO): $20-25 USD per person per week.
Tipping Kitty: On some trips, your CEO may suggest a “tipping kitty” where everyone contributes at the start of the tour, and the CEO uses that pooled amount to tip service providers for the group as a whole (not including your CEO). If your CEO doesn’t mention it and you’d like to use a kitty, we recommend asking about it early in the trip. Your CEO will advise the suggested amount and preferred currency for the kitty.
Vaccinations
GEEO cannot provide any medical advice, so it is very important to consult your doctor or a travel clinic about which vaccinations you will need for your trip. We recommend contacting Passport Health, which has travel clinics located throughout the United States. You can also check the CDC’s recommended vaccinations for your destination.
Flights
Wait for official trip confirmation via email from GEEO before booking your flights. Prices tend to be lowest 90–120 days out, but that window varies by route and year. Neither GEEO nor G Adventures bears responsibility for any flights purchased before the trip is confirmed.
You will fly into Puerto Princesa International Airport for this program. Check the itinerary for the required arrival date. Aim to arrive no later than mid-afternoon for the 6 p.m. Day-1 welcome meeting, and consider arriving a day or two early to buffer flight delays and see more of Puerto Princesa. Your trip ends in El Nido and the closest airport is El Nido Airport, also known as Lio Airport. You can depart El Nido any time on the final day of the program, or stay longer to see more of Palawan.
Plugs and Converters
The Philippines uses American-style Type A and B plugs, as well as European-style Type C plugs with two circular prongs, and the voltage is 220V. To use your electronics safely, you’ll need to consider:
1. Adapter (plug shape)
Adapts your U.S. plug to fit another type of socket. See our recommended all-in-one travel adapter in our Gear Recommendations post.
2. Converter / transformer (voltage)
Steps the outlet voltage down to 120V for U.S. appliances that can’t handle higher voltage.
Check what you need: Look on your device’s plug or power brick. “Input: 100-240V” works worldwide—you only need a plug adapter. Any range narrower (e.g., “110-120V” or “Input: 120V”) means you need an adapter and a voltage converter to avoid damage. Converters are inexpensive and available online or in travel stores.
Weather
March is the start of the dry season in the Philippines, which runs until May. Expect minimal rain but increasing heat and humidity, with temperatures from 77°F to 93°F and clear skies perfect for beaches, hiking, and diving.
