The journey then continues to Flores, gateway to Komodo National Park, where you’ll observe Komodo dragons in their natural habitat, snorkel among vibrant coral reefs, and learn about regional conservation efforts. Arrive at any time. There are no planned activities until the Welcome Meeting in the evening. The nearest airport is Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS), also known as Denpasar International Airport.

Consider arriving 1-2 days early to explore the city, adjust to the time zone, and buffer against flight delays. We can request extra hotel nights for you before the program begins in Seminyak.

      Hotel Check-in and Welcome Meeting
Hotel check-in is normally between 2–3 p.m. Check with reception for the exact time and location of the group welcome meeting, typically between 6–7 p.m. Please make every effort to attend this meeting. If you're running late, send a message in the group WhatsApp or call the emergency number on your trip voucher so that your tour leader can let you know where and when to meet the group.

After the meeting, you might choose to get dinner at a nearby restaurant with your traveling companions and your tour leader to further get to know one another.

      • Joining Instructions
      • After clearing customs, you'll enter the arrivals hall with currency exchange booths (rates aren't great—better to wait until Seminyak) and ATMs dispensing Indonesian Rupiah.
      • Taxi: Fixed-rate taxis are available at the official taxi stand outside the terminal. Prices are posted on the wall and payable in Rupiah or USD. Book and pay at the counter, receive a voucher, then they'll direct you to your taxi. The drive to Seminyak takes about 18 minutes (longer in heavy traffic).
      • Pre-booked Transfer: If you've arranged an airport transfer, look for your driver holding a G Adventures sign in the meeting area, approximately 50 yards from the exit after baggage claim. Can't find your driver? Call the emergency number on your trip voucher, or take a taxi to the hotel (and let us know).

The program begins with an overland journey from Seminyak to the mountain village of Munduk, with four stops along the way. The first is the Jatiluwih Rice Terraces, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site recognized for the subak irrigation system, a centuries-old cooperative water management practice rooted in Balinese Hindu philosophy.

From there, the group visits the Baturiti Fruit Market in the Bedugul highlands, a lively stop to browse stalls of tropical produce including dragon fruit, rambutan, and salak (snake fruit). The route then continues to Ulun Danu Beratan Temple, a prominent water temple constructed in the 17th century by the King of Mengwi and dedicated to Dewi Danu, goddess of lakes and rivers.

The day concludes with a scenic stop at the Twin Lakes (Tamblingan and Buyan) viewpoint before arriving at the guesthouse in Munduk for a group dinner.

Approximate travel time: 3.5 to 4.5 by private vehicle
      Meals included: Breakfast | Dinner

The day begins with a soak at Banjar Hot Springs, a centuries-old natural bathing site nestled in Bali's lush northern hills. From there, the group heads to Pasar Anyar, a bustling traditional market in the city of Singaraja, where vendors sell fresh produce, spices, textiles, and handmade goods.

The afternoon includes a visit to Beji Temple, one of Bali's oldest places of worship, dating to the 15th century. The temple's intricately carved stone figures and ornamental gates reflect the enduring artistry of Balinese Hindu tradition.

The group then travels to a community-run homestay in Bulian for a guided village tour and a hands-on traditional offering-making workshop. The homestay is managed by a local woman who established it to create employment for other women and vulnerable youth in the community, with the aim of preserving Balinese culture and keeping residents rooted in their village. It is a genuinely meaningful place to spend the night.

Approximate travel time: 2h 15m by private vehicle
Meals included: Breakfast | Lunch | Dinner

A full day of guided trekking begins after breakfast in Lemukih Village, where the trail winds through rice terraces, durian plantations, and coffee groves before reaching a natural rock waterslide. Following lunch at a local warung, the group continues to two of Bali's most impressive waterfalls: Fiji and Sekumpul.

The Sekumpul system—six cascades converging in a deep jungle canyon—is widely regarded as among the finest in Southeast Asia, and there is ample time to swim and explore.

The day ends with a drive to the highland region of Kintamani, where the hotel sits above the caldera with sweeping views of Mount Batur and Lake Batur.

Approximate travel time: 1h by private vehicle
      Meals included: Breakfast | Lunch

An early departure for Mount Batur, where two options are available: a guided summit trek up the active volcano, or a 4WD excursion across the ash fields and hardened lava flows at its base. Both offer dramatic views of Mount Agung and Lake Batur at sunrise.

After returning to the hotel for breakfast, the group visits Penglipuran Village, one of the most intact traditional villages in Bali. The village is known for its uniform bamboo architecture, car-free lanes, and the strong communal customs its residents have maintained for generations.

En route to Ubud, the group stops at Pura Gunung Kawi Sebatu, a tranquil water temple set within a jungle clearing and fed by natural spring pools. The group arrives in Ubud—Bali's center of arts, crafts, and traditional dance—with the evening free.

Approximate travel time: 2h by private vehicle
      Meals included: Breakfast

Enjoy a full unstructured day in Ubud. The tour leader is available to assist with arrangements and recommendations. The following optional experiences are worth considering.

Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary: A forested temple complex home to hundreds of Balinese long-tailed macaques, set among ancient stone shrines draped in jungle vines.

Traditional Offering Workshop (Widya Guna Foundation): A hands-on session learning to make canang sari — the small flower offerings placed daily at temples and doorways throughout Bali. The foundation supports local artisans and preserves this ceremonial tradition. Participants may follow the workshop with visits to the Gunung Kawi royal tombs and Tirta Empul purification temple.

Balinese Cooking Class (Laplapan Village): Prepare traditional dishes including chicken satay, banana leaf-wrapped fish, and gado-gado at your own cooking station using fresh local ingredients, then enjoy the meal you've made.

Medahan Village Cultural Walk: A guided walk through working rice paddies, a local family compound, a village temple, and a traditional market, concluding with a home-cooked lunch.

      Meals included: Breakfast

Following breakfast, the group departs Ubud and travels east to the coast, arriving in Padang Bai—a relaxed harbor town on Bali's eastern shore—in the early afternoon.

Please note: the program has temporarily relocated this coastal stay from Candidasa to Padang Bai while conservation works are underway at Candidasa beach. The stay will return to Candidasa once work is complete.

Padang Bai's sheltered bay has calm, clear water well-suited for snorkeling, and the town's low-key harbor atmosphere makes it an easy place to settle in. The remainder of the afternoon is free.

      Approximate travel time: 2hrs
      Meals included: Breakfast

Enjoy free day in Padang Bai. Two optional activities worth considering:

Balinese Cooking Class: Learn to prepare traditional Balinese dishes including Chicken Tum (steamed banana leaf parcels) and Gado-Gado using fresh herbs and spices sourced from local markets.

Blue Lagoon Snorkeling: A guided snorkeling trip to Blue Lagoon Bay, known for its accessible reef, clear water, and abundant marine life — including colorful reef fish, coral formations, and the occasional sea turtle.

      Meals included: Breakfast

After a final morning in Padang Bai, the group travels west back to Seminyak. After checking in, the rest of the day is free for beach time, browsing the shops, or a quiet evening before the Komodo segment of the program begins tomorrow.

      Approximate travel time: 1-2hrs
      Meals included: Breakfast

Today the program moves from Bali to Labuan Bajo, a fishing town on the western tip of Flores Island and the main gateway to Komodo National Park. After a quick ride to the airport, board a flight to Labuan Bajo and then head to the hotel to settle in.

The evening free to explore the harborfront, grab dinner, and prepare for two full days on the water starting tomorrow

      Approximate travel time: 1-2hrs
      Meals included: Breakfast

A full-day guided boat tour through Komodo National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site encompassing some of the most biodiverse waters in the world. The day begins at Komodo Island with a ranger-guided trek to find Komodo dragons, the world's largest living lizards, native only to this small cluster of islands. Rangers provide context on the animals' behavior, diet, and the ongoing conservation work protecting the species.

The group then visits Pink Beach, one of only a handful of pink-sand beaches in the world, where snorkeling over the reef is outstanding. From there, the boat heads to Manta Point—a known gathering spot for oceanic manta rays—for a snorkel alongside these remarkable animals. The day rounds out at the Taka Makassar sandbar and Kanawa Island, both ideal for swimming, relaxing, and additional snorkeling.

Note: Activity order may shift based on tides and weather conditions.

      Meals included: Breakfast | Lunch

A second day of exploration in Komodo National Park starts with a morning hike on Padar Island. The climb is moderately strenuous—roughly 30 to 45 minutes to the top—but the reward is one of the most striking panoramas in Indonesia: three crescent bays curving around the island's jagged ridgeline, each with distinctly colored sand.

The group then travels to Rinca Island for another chance to observe Komodo dragons in the wild, guided by a local ranger. The afternoon includes snorkeling at Menjerite Island followed by free time at Kelor Island, where a short hike leads to a hilltop viewpoint, or participants can simply swim and relax on the beach. The group returns to Labuan Bajo by evening.

      Meals included: Breakfast | Lunch

A final free day with optional guided activities available:

Cunca Wulang Waterfall Trek: A guided hike through forested hills, rice paddies, and tropical plantations on the Flores mainland, ending at a multi-tiered waterfall in a limestone canyon. The nearby Batu Cermin Cave is also worth a visit, with its unusual light effects created by sunlight filtering through narrow fissures in the limestone.

Kalong Island Sunset Cruise: A boat excursion to Kalong Island at dusk, timed to watch thousands of large fruit bats emerge from the mangroves and take to the sky—a spectacular natural event and a memorable way to close out the final evening in Komodo.

      Meals included: Breakfast

There are no planned activities today, so you may depart Labuan Bajo at any time. The main airport is Komodo International Airport (LBJ), with affordable nonstop flights throughout the day to Denpasar, Jakarta, and Kuala Lumpur. If you wish to extend your stay in Labuan Bajo, consider booking post-tour accommodation with us.

Please note that check-out time from the hotel is usually mid-morning, but luggage storage services are available at the reception desk.

      Meals included: Breakfast

*Itinerary Disclaimer: While it is our intention to adhere to the routes described on our website, there is a certain amount of flexibility built into the itinerary and on occasion it may be necessary, or desirable, to make alterations. The itinerary is brief, as we never know exactly where our journey will take us. Due to our style of travel and the regions we visit, travel can be unpredictable. Additionally, any travel times listed are approximations only and subject to vary due to local circumstances.

      Details

      Important

Before you decide to travel with GEEO, it is important that you read all of the program information on this page. Our programs are quite adventurous, and we find that travelers who review the full trip details are happier with their experiences.

      Trip Notes & Expectations

      ACCOMMODATION

Our program fees are based on double-occupancy accommodation (see "Single Travelers" below if you do not have a travel companion and would be interested in a private room). Our accommodations are selected for safety, cleanliness, and convenient locations. While they are comfortable and well-suited for group travel, they are generally simple rather than luxury properties in order to keep the program affordable.

      TRANSPORTATION

We use a mix of transportation that gets our guests from location to location safely. Sometimes you will have full days and nights of transportation as our trips tend to cover a lot of ground. The transportation will often be an adventure in itself.

      LUGGAGE

Pack light and bring compact and lightweight luggage that you can easily transport. The carrying of your luggage remains your responsibility at all times.

      ACTIVITY LEVEL & PACE

This trip should be appropriate for most travelers. There is light walking and hiking suitable for most fitness levels and nothing too challenging. Many of our programs occur in locations where it is very hot during the day. Please make sure you have thoroughly read the itinerary and can handle the group activities, which sometime include day hikes with your daypacks. We recommend always carrying snacks with you. Meals can sometimes be far apart.

      ILLEGAL DRUGS

Illegal drugs will not be tolerated on any trips. Possessing or using drugs not only contravenes the laws of the land but also puts the rest of the group at risk. Smoking marijuana and opium is a part of local culture in some parts of the world but is not acceptable for our travelers. Our philosophy of travel is one of respect towards everyone we encounter and in particular the local people who make the world the special place it is. The exploitation of people in the sex trade is completely contrary to this philosophy. Our tour leaders have the right to expel any member of the group if drugs are found in their possession or if they utilize the services of paid sex workers, in any capacity.

      GROUP LEADER

All GEEO programs are led by a G Adventures Chief Experience Officer (CEO), whose role is to take the hassle out of travel and help you get the most from your trip. They’ll share information about the places you visit, suggest activities and restaurants, and introduce you to our local friends. While not traditional guides, CEOs have broad knowledge of the region’s history, culture, and daily life. On some excursions, local guides are used for deeper insight.

      Packing List
See our blog post of staff-recommended gear to help you pack for your upcoming travels. You must be able to carry your own luggage—up stairs, on and off of transport, and during 15 to 20 minute walks. Bring one small or medium backpack or rolling bag (22-30lb) and one daypack for daily items. Space is limited on transportation, so oversized bags cannot travel. As you prepare your packing list, we recommend checking average weather conditions for your destination.

      Passports and Visas
Travelers are responsible for securing all required travel documents and meeting the entry requirements for every country on their itinerary, including applicable transit/layover countries.  PASSPORT  All travelers must have a passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your trip dates with enough blank pages for stamps. Need to apply or renew? Start here. ENTRY/VISA REQUIREMENTS  Visa rules change frequently—always verify the latest requirements on the U.S. State Department Country Information Pages. Non-U.S. passport holders should verify requirements with your country's official government resources. Use the tool below to see entry requirements for your specific itinerary.  Entry information below is provided by Sherpa, a third-party service and trusted G Adventures partner. You must search each of your destination countries separately; “Add connection” solely searches transit visa requirements. Additional fees apply if you choose to purchase any services through Sherpa.
      Money Exchange
Currency: The local currency in Indonesia is the rupiah (IDR). For current exchange rates, visit www.xe.com. Credit/Debit Cards: Credit cards (especially Visa and Mastercard) are accepted at many hotels, shops, and restaurants, but not everywhere. Some vendors may also charge an international transaction fee, so check with your bank before you travel. Cash: For small purchases, tipping, or places that don’t take cards, we recommend using ATMs to withdraw local currency while traveling. If you bring U.S. dollars to exchange, the bills must be new, unmarked, and in excellent condition—damaged or older notes are often rejected. Emergency Funds: Bring at least $200 USD (or the equivalent in local currency) in cash for emergencies in case of ATM or card issues. Always carry more rather than less to avoid feeling short of funds while traveling. See the Estimated Trip Costs section at the bottom of this page for budgeting guidance. For more advice, see our post, Smart Travel Finances: Your Guide to Money, ATMs, Fees, and Safety Abroad
      Tipping
Tipping is optional but appreciated and goes a long way for the people who look after you on the trip. If you are happy with the service, use these ballpark amounts and adjust as you see fit: - Service providers/Waiters: 10% of the bill. - Local guides and drivers: $1.50-3.50 USD per person per day. - G Adventures tour leader (CEO): $20-25 USD per person per week. (We suggest pooling contributions in an envelope and presenting it as a group) Tipping Kitty: On some trips, your CEO may suggest a “tipping kitty” where everyone contributes at the start of the tour, and the CEO uses that pooled amount to tip service providers for the group as a whole (not including your CEO). If your CEO doesn’t mention it and you’d like to use a kitty, we recommend asking about it early in the trip. Your CEO will advise the suggested amount and preferred currency for the kitty.
      Vaccinations
GEEO cannot provide any medical advice, so it is very important to consult your doctor or a travel clinic about which vaccinations you will need for your trip. We recommend contacting Passport Health, which has travel clinics located throughout the United States. You can also check the CDC's recommended vaccinations for your destination. Please take this seriously!
      Flights
Wait for official trip confirmation via email from GEEO before booking your flights. Prices tend to be lowest 90–120 days out, but that window varies by route and year. Neither GEEO nor G Adventures bears responsibility for any flights purchased before the trip is confirmed. You will fly into Bali Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) for this program. Please double-check our itinerary for the date by which you must arrive in Seminyak, which is about a 20-minute drive from Bali Ngurah Rai International Airport. You can arrive at any time you choose, but try to make it in time for our 6:00 p.m. Welcome Meeting on Day 1. You may want to arrive in Bali one or more days early in case you have flight disruptions. Your trip ends in Labuan Bajo and the nearest airport is Komodo International Airport (LBJ). You can depart Labuan Bajo any time on the final day of the program, or stay longer to see more of the area.
      Plugs and Converters
Indonesia uses Type C and Type F plugs and the voltage is 230V. To use your electronics safely, you’ll need to consider: 1. Adapter (plug shape) Adapts your U.S. plug to fit another type of socket. See our recommended all-in-one travel adapter in our Gear Recommendations post. 2. Converter / transformer (voltage) Steps the outlet voltage down to 120V for U.S. appliances that can’t handle higher voltage. Check what you need: Look on your device's plug or power brick. “Input: 100-240V” works worldwide—you only need a plug adapter. Any range narrower (e.g., "110-120V" or “Input: 120V”) means you need an adapter and a voltage converter to avoid damage. Converters are inexpensive and available online or in travel stores.
      Weather
Bali and the Lesser Sunda Islands have a tropical climate with consistent year-round temperatures. While the wet season (western monsoon) runs from late October to April, July falls within the dry season; expect occasional short showers followed by clear skies. Bali’s mountainous interior is cooler and wetter, and the coastal regions are the warmest and driest parts of the island.
