Spend the day exploring Manila’s complex past. Start with a guided walk through Intramuros, the walled city built by the Spanish in the late 1500s. Once the center of Spanish rule in Asia, Intramuros endured centuries of conflict before being nearly leveled during the Battle of Manila in 1945—one of the bloodiest urban battles of WWII. Today, its ruins and restored buildings offer a stark reminder of the city’s resilience.

In the afternoon, hop into a colorful Jeepney and head to Binondo, Manila’s Chinatown for a walking food tour, tasting street snacks that blend Chinese and Filipino flavors shaped by migration and trade.

Accommodation: Bayleaf Hotel Meals included: Breakfast | Dinner

We'll leave the bustling city behind and head to the jungle of Mount Purro Nature Reserve to spend a day with the Dumagat Indigenous community, learning more about local food and culture. These individuals have been instrumental in reforestation efforts in the area. An adventure filled day, you'll do some light hiking to a waterfall, join in an Indigenous cooking demonstration, build the fire for cooking, and make sinigang, a traditional pork dish cooked in bamboo. Then dig into the meal while listening to the stories of the locals. In the afternoon, return to Manila. Approximate travel time: 2.5 hrs by private vehicle Accommodation: Bayleaf Hotel (or similar) Meals included: Breakfast | Lunch

Fly south to Puerto Princesa, a coastal city on the island of Palawan. Spend the afternoon at your own pace — you might choose to explore local spots like Baker’s Hill or Plaza Cuartel.

In the evening, head into the mangrove forest for a firefly watching tour, where thousands of glowing insects light up the trees under the night sky.

Approximate travel time: 1.5 hrs by plane Accommodation: Holiday Suite, Puerto Princesa (or similar) Meals included: Breakfast

In the morning, visit the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature. Take a boat ride through the underground river, exploring its 8.2-kilometer cave system, towering limestone formations, and diverse wildlife, including bats, swallows, and unique flora.

In the afternoon, drive north to Port Barton, a small, peaceful town along Palawan's coast. Known for its crystal-clear waters and quiet beaches, Port Barton is perfect for relaxing or visiting nearby German Island or White Beach. You’ll have the chance to unwind and enjoy the atmosphere before continuing your adventure.

Approximate travel time: 4 hrs by private vehicle
Accommodation: Holiday Suite, Port Barton (or similar)
      Meals included: Breakfast | Lunch

In the morning, board a boat for an island-hopping adventure around the stunning coastline of Port Barton. Spend the day exploring unspoiled beaches, snorkeling in crystal-clear waters, and keeping an eye out for sea turtles. During your adventure, you'll enjoy a lunch on one of these magical islands.

In the evening, head back to Port Barton and unwind at one of the local beach bars. Enjoy the relaxed vibe, sip on a cold drink, and take in the sounds of live music from local bands. The small-town atmosphere comes alive at night, with the soothing rhythm of acoustic guitars and traditional Filipino tunes filling the air. Whether you're enjoying the beach or the lively night scene, it's the perfect way to end your day.

Accommodation: Holiday Suite, Port Barton (or similar) Meals included: Breakfast | Lunch

Today, we're traveling by private vehicle from Port Barton to El Nido. Upon arrival, head to the village of Sibaltan for a visit to the Sibaltan Heritage House. You'll join local women for a hands-on cooking demonstration and tasting session, as you discover the secret to traditional cuisine.

After lunch, take part in a cultural experience with the community. Learn local songs and dances, and observe Cuyonon artisan weaving using natural materials like pandan and buri leaves. This experience supports sustainable tourism and helps preserve the cultural heritage of the region.

Approximate travel time: 3 hrs by private vehicle
Accommodation: Isla Amara Hotel, Lio Beach (or similar)
      Meals included: Breakfast | Lunch

Spend the day cruising through the breathtaking seascapes of El Nido on a private island-hopping adventure. Set out across Bacuit Bay, known for its limestone karst cliffs, bright turquoise water, and hidden lagoons. Stop at spots like Secret Beach, tucked behind a narrow rock opening, and Hidden Beach, surrounded by towering cliffs. Swim and snorkel through coral reefs teeming with life—keep an eye out for sea turtles, clownfish, and even the occasional stingray gliding beneath the surface.

In between swims, relax on the deck or on the soft white sand of a secluded beach. A freshly prepared lunch will be served on board. Then soak in the scenery and listen to stories about El Nido’s geography and history from the crew. After a full day of sun, saltwater, and exploring, head back to shore in the late afternoon and settle in for another peaceful night in Lio Beach.

Accommodation: Isla Amara Hotel, Lio Beach (or similar)
      Meals included: Breakfast | Lunch

Spend your last full day in El Nido however you’d like. Relax on the beach, explore town, or head out on one final adventure. Hike up the jagged limestone cliffs of Taraw Peak for a dramatic panoramic view over Bacuit Bay—just be ready for a steep, hands-on climb. Or take a trip to Kuyawyaw Falls, a series of jungle waterfalls with fresh pools for swimming and cliff-jumping.

Whether you’re chasing waterfalls or just soaking up the sun, today’s yours to slow down and take it all in before heading home.

Accommodation: Isla Amara Hotel, Lio Beach (or similar)
      Meals included: Breakfast

There are no planned activities today, so you may depart El Nido at any time. If you wish to extend your stay, consider booking post-tour accommodation with us. Book two or more GEEO programs in the same school year and receive a discount! GEEO will give you 10% off of the lesser value program(s) (up to 3 programs per year). *Itinerary Disclaimer: While it is our intention to adhere to the routes described on our website, there is a certain amount of flexibility built into the itinerary and on occasion it may be necessary, or desirable, to make alterations. The itinerary is brief, as we never know exactly where our journey will take us. Due to our style of travel and the regions we visit, travel can be unpredictable. The information on our website is a general guide to the tour and region, and any mention of specific destinations or wildlife is by no means a guarantee that they will be visited or encountered. Additionally, any travel times listed are approximations only and subject to vary due to local circumstances.

      Details

      Important

Before you decide to travel with GEEO, it is important that you read all of the program information on this page. Our programs are quite adventurous, and we find that travelers who review the full trip details are happier with their experiences.

      Trip Notes & Expectations

      ACCOMMODATION

Our program fees are based on double-occupancy accommodation (see "Single Travelers" below if you do not have a travel companion and would be interested in a private room). Our accommodations are chosen to provide a safe, conveniently located place to sleep. While you may be pleasantly surprised, please don't expect luxury, as we prioritize keeping our programs affordable.

      TRANSPORTATION

We use a mix of transportation that gets our guests from location to location safely. Sometimes you will have full days and nights of transportation as our trips tend to cover a lot of ground. The transportation will often be an adventure in itself.

      LUGGAGE

Pack light and bring luggage which is compact and lightweight, and which you can easily transport. The carrying of your luggage remains your responsibility at all times.

      ACTIVITY LEVEL & PACE

This trip should be appropriate for most travelers. There is light walking and hiking suitable for most fitness levels and nothing too challenging. Many of our programs occur in locations where it is very hot during the day. Please make sure you have thoroughly read the itinerary and can handle the group activities, which sometime include day hikes with your daypacks. We recommend always carrying snacks with you. Meals can sometimes be far apart.

      ILLEGAL DRUGS

Illegal drugs will not be tolerated on any trips. Possessing or using drugs not only contravenes the laws of the land but also puts the rest of the group at risk. Smoking marijuana and opium is a part of local culture in some parts of the world but is not acceptable for our travelers. Our philosophy of travel is one of respect towards everyone we encounter and in particular the local people who make the world the special place it is. The exploitation of people in the sex trade is completely contrary to this philosophy. Our tour leaders have the right to expel any member of the group if drugs are found in their possession or if they utilize the services of paid sex workers, in any capacity.

      GROUP LEADER

All GEEO/G Adventures trips are led by a Chief Experience Officer (CEO), whose role is to take the hassle out of travel and help you get the most from your trip. They’ll share information about the places you visit, suggest activities and restaurants, and introduce you to our local friends. While not traditional guides, CEOs have broad knowledge of the region’s history, culture, and daily life. On some excursions, local guides are used for deeper insight—giving you the best of both worlds.

      Packing List
See our blog post of staff recommended gear to help you pack for your upcoming travels. You must be able to carry your own luggage—up stairs, on and off of transport, and during 15 to 20 minute walks. Bring one small or medium backpack or rolling bag (22-30lb) and one daypack for daily items. Space is limited on transportation, so oversized bags cannot travel. As you prepare your packing list, we recommend checking average weather conditions for your destination on a site like Weather Spark for the time of year you will be traveling.

      Passports and Visas
Travelers are responsible for securing all required travel documents and meeting the entry requirements for every country on their itinerary, including applicable transit/layover countries. PASSPORT All travelers must have a passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your trip dates with enough blank pages for stamps. Need to apply or renew? Start here. ENTRY/VISA REQUIREMENTS Visa rules change frequently—always verify the latest requirements on the U.S. State Department Country Information Pages. Non-U.S. passport holders should verify requirements with your country's official government resources. Use the tool below to see entry requirements for your specific itinerary. Entry information below is provided by Sherpa, a third-party service and trusted G Adventures partner. You must search each of your destination countries separately; “Add connection” solely searches transit visa requirements. Additional fees apply if you choose to purchase any services through Sherpa.
      Money Exchange
The local currency in the Philippines is the Philippine Peso (PHP). For current exchange rates, visit www.xe.com. Credit/Debit Cards: Credit cards (especially Visa and Mastercard) are accepted at many hotels, shops, and restaurants, but not everywhere. Some vendors may also charge an international transaction fee, so check with your bank before you travel. Cash: For small purchases, tipping, or places that don’t take cards, we recommend using ATMs to withdraw local currency while traveling. If you bring U.S. dollars to exchange, the bills must be new, unmarked, and in excellent condition—damaged or older notes are often rejected. Emergency Funds: Bring at least $200 USD (or the equivalent in local currency) in cash for emergencies in case of ATM or card issues. Always carry more rather than less to avoid feeling short of funds while traveling. See the Estimated Trip Costs section at the bottom of this page for budgeting guidance. For more advice, see our post, Smart Travel Finances: Your Guide to Money, ATMs, Fees, and Safety Abroad
      Tipping
Tipping is optional but appreciated and goes a long way for the people who look after you on the trip. If you are happy with the service, use these ballpark amounts and adjust as you see fit: - Service providers/Waiters: 10% of the bill. - Local guides and drivers: $1.50-3.50 USD per person per day. - G Adventures tour leader (CEO): $20-25 USD per person per week. Tipping Kitty: On some trips, your CEO may suggest a “tipping kitty” where everyone contributes at the start of the tour, and the CEO uses that pooled amount to tip service providers for the group as a whole (not including your CEO). If your CEO doesn’t mention it and you’d like to use a kitty, we recommend asking about it early in the trip. Your CEO will advise the suggested amount and preferred currency for the kitty.
      Vaccinations
GEEO cannot provide any medical advice, so it is very important to consult your doctor or a travel clinic about which vaccinations you will need for your trip. We recommend contacting Passport Health, which has travel clinics located throughout the United States. You can also check the CDC's recommended vaccinations for your destination.
      Flights
Wait for official trip confirmation via email from GEEO before booking your flights. Prices tend to be lowest 90–120 days out, but that window varies by route and year. Neither GEEO nor G Adventures bear responsibility for any flights purchased before the trip is confirmed. You will fly into Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila for this program. Check the itinerary for the required arrival date. Aim to arrive no later than mid-afternoon for the 6 p.m. Day-1 welcome meeting, and consider arriving a day or two early to buffer flight delays and see more of Manila. Your trip ends in El Nido and the closest airport is El Nido Airport, also known as Lio Airport. You can depart El Nido any time on the final day of the program, or stay longer to see more of Palawan.
      Plugs and Converters
The Philippines uses American-style Type A and B plugs, as well as European-style Type C plugs with two circular prongs, and the voltage is 220V. To use your electronics safely, you’ll need to consider: 1. Adapter (plug shape) Adapts your U.S. plug to fit another type of socket. See our recommended all-in-one travel adapter in our Gear Recommendations post. 2. Converter / transformer (voltage) Steps the outlet voltage down to 120V for U.S. appliances that can’t handle higher voltage. How to know which you need: Look at the fine print on the plug or power brick. An “Input 100-240 V” means the device is dual-voltage and works worldwide with only an adapter—phones, laptops, and most camera chargers fall into this category. If the label shows “Input 120 V” (hair dryers, curling irons, some shavers), it could be damaged on high voltage. Pack both an adapter and a travel voltage converter. Converters are inexpensive and sold online or in the travel aisle of many stores.
      Weather
June is the start of the rainy season in the Philippines, which runs until October. The rains begin in the north and sweep through the country, although some places remain quite sheltered and relatively dry. Even in areas with daily rainfall, it doesn't rain too heavily or for very long. With the rain comes cooler temperatures, but humidity can be high when the sun is out. Expect temperatures of between 77°F and 91°F in June. The exception to the above is when a typhoon hits, bringing exceptionally heavy rain and intense winds. These can occur at any time of year but are most likely between June and September. Palawan, where we spend over half the trip, is less likely to experience typhoons than other parts of the country. June is a good time to go to Palawan and experience the white sand beaches and rocky islands without the crowds.
