Turkish Art and Architecture for Elementary Artists

Contributor :

Simone Kivett

Action Plan

I am an elementary art teacher, and I would like to teach my students about various forms of art and architecture from Turkey. I will show students my photos of the famous churches, mosques and architectural sites. I plan to teach specific materials based lessons related to the art.

Pre-Departure Preparation

I will research different art forms such as fabric design, wood carvings, religious art, paper weavings, rugs, Turkish arts and crafts, and artifacts from the different sites and museums we will visit. I will research the different museums and places we are visiting on the tour to see what information I can find in advance by looking at their websites ahead of time.

Preparation During Travel

When we visit museums and architectural sites I will make sure to take plenty of photos of the artifacts and sites. I plan to visit different markets and craft fairs to learn about the various local crafts people make in Turkey. I hope to purchase some examples of the art at local gift shops and museums to show my students later. Hopefully during the trip, I can see a festival, parade or some type of religious ceremony related to the Turkish culture.
