Sociology Abroad: Norms and Cultural Relativism in Turkey
Contributor :
Daniela Roscero Cervantes
Action Plan
There are a lot of connections to sociology when visiting any foreign country. We can talk about the elements of culture, and I can utilize Turkish norms and customs as examples. I can also talk about the experience of traveling abroad and how cultural relativism can help make the most out of the experience. We also have a unit on deviance and social control, and talking about this experience can help emphasize that deviance is culturally defined as well. For psychology, there are connections to the language unit (phonemes, morphemes, etc) that can be exemplified with the Turkish language.
