Greek, Byzantine, and Ottoman Art in Turkey

Contributor :

Zane Pang

Action Plan

One of the classes I teach is AP Art History. During the trip, I plan on incorporating new cultural knowledge that I gain from the trip to the class. This includes Greek, Byzantine, and Ottoman art.

Pre-Departure Preparation

Plan on my visits to important artistic and culturally significant sites.

Preparation During Travel

Make sure to visit 2 architecture sites that are part of the curriculum: Hagia Sophia and the Great Mosque of Selim II (not sure about this because it seems out of the way). A big part of the class is explaining how art is not isolated and cultures can influence the art of each other. Turkey is an excellent location to engage in that process because of it multicultural history. I plan taking pictures to document all the changes and develop in art and cultural in Istanbul and in other cities with Byzantine, Greek, Early Christian, and Ottoman art.
