Diverse Perspectives on Islam in the ELA Classroom
Contributor :
Victoria Zinda
Action Plan
I will develop more curricular resources to examine the role that Islam plays in the lives of people in different countries (including Turkey) and broaden our curriculum to include multiple, diverse perspectives of Islam. Students will connect this to our unit focused around a book about two Muslim, Somali boys.
Pre-Departure Preparation
I will make sure to research all the religious sites that I will visit and find more to see on our “free” days.
Preparation During Travel
I will visit as many mosques as I can and take many photos (when allowed). If I have the opportunity to, I will ask local people how religion influences Turkey and Turkish culture.
