A 360-Degree Tour of Worship Sites in Turkey

Contributor :

Drew Holtmann

Action Plan

Using my 360 camera, I plan to photograph and video record places of worship and historical sites that we visit across Turkey. Using 360 goggles or laptops, students can explore these scenes, observe worship, and listen to prayers from our classroom. It’s not practical to take my world religions students around the world, but using technology we can bring the world to our classroom in St. Louis.

Pre-Departure Preparation

I will research some of the places I hope to photograph ahead of time – Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Goreme Open Air Museum, etc.

Preparation During Travel

Ask questions. The buildings and architecture are easy enough to photograph and record. However, the story and history of each place is best understood through the lens of the locals who gather, worship, and serve as stewards to the site. Listening to, preserving, and sharing their experiences highlight why each place is important to people throughout the ages.
