Founded in 2007, GEEO is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that sends teachers abroad on adventurous travel programs. GEEO then helps these teachers share their experiences with their students. GEEO’s programs are designed and discounted to be interesting and affordable for teachers. The trips are open to pre-K-12 and university educators, administrators, retired educators, as well as educators’ guests.

Job Summary

In this fully remote role position as the Marketing Manager, you will lead all aspects of GEEO’s marketing, public relations, and outreach efforts. This role requires creativity, strategic thinking, and a strong work ethic. You will exercise autonomy and discretion and will be entrusted as a self-starter to leverage your skill set to enhance GEEO’s impact and outreach. You will report directly to the Executive Director and be expected to take an annual international trip.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage GEEO’s social media accounts, including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and Pinterest by creating content to achieve agreed-upon growth goals for views and engagement.
  • Recruit and collaborate with strategic influencers to enhance GEEO’s outreach and visibility.
  • Utilize Google Analytics, Google Ads, SEO techniques, and ad retargeting platforms to connect GEEO with eligible participants.
  • Identify, develop, and execute new digital advertising strategies for successful online promotion.
  • Responsible for creating organizations’ written communication.
  • Perform outreach to organizations, school districts, and media outlets to promote GEEO programs and advertise grant opportunities.
  • Collaborate with participants to generate articles for union publications and local/national press.
  • Participate on GEEO’s customer support team by helping travelers prepare for their trips.
  • Enjoy a collaborative and open communication environment with the GEEO team.
  • Travel internationally for 1-2 weeks on a GEEO program trip once per year. In addition to the airfare and trip cost, reasonable travel expenses are covered in line with GEEO policy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

At GEEO, serving teachers is at the core of our work. Customer service is the foundation. Our small team (four employees) shares the traveler support workload while carrying out primary job functions. This structure provides each employee with variety in their day-to-day tasks and allows each of us to remain close to our participants and their perspectives. In the Marketing Manager role, a successful candidate should expect to spend roughly 15% of their time over the course of a calendar year in direct traveler support efforts.

This is a fully remote, full-time, exempt (salaried) position with a semi-flexible schedule. The standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time, but occasional adjustments may be needed to accommodate business needs.

Required Education, Training, and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5+ years of work experience in Marketing/Communications/Digital Advertising
  • Experience managing company social media and internet accounts (i.e., Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Google Adwords, and Google Analytics).
  • Substantial pre-existing international travel experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills (must be comfortable talking on the phone with customers)
  • Strong organizational skills, very detail-oriented, and not afraid to ask questions to ensure accuracy
  • Inbox-zero approach; responds quickly to all requests
  • Fast learner and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
  • Self-starter and comfortable working remotely
  • Proficiency in using Mac or PC, intermediate to advanced knowledge of Google Workspace.
  • Flexibility and a team player – willing to jump in anywhere as needed

Logistics
  • Expected start date: ASAP
  • Full-time (semi-flexible schedule) remote work in the United States with a high-speed internet connection, with some national or international travel involved.
  • Salary: $59,000-65,000 annually based on experience and skill set with benefits including employer-matched Simple IRA after 1 year of employment, extended family and medical leave after 2 years of employment, and two weeks paid time off.

GEEO has operated on a fully remote basis since its inception in 2007, long before the pandemic-induced surge in remote work.
