Be prepared to take lots of pictures and keep a journal during the trip with my projects in mind.
I will have the high school student do a project where they plan a trip to their dream destination, including flights, hotels, sites to see, activities to do and cultural highlights of the trip. To prep, I will show my photos and talk about my planning process and resources. For the elementary school, I will probably show pictures and have them do a Visual Treasure Hunt to find items from a list that I prepare for them.
I am reading travel books from your suggested list and looking at Lonely Planet books about specific cities.
