I will attend a performance of the Bali Arts Festival during one of the free nights on the trip. I will connect with a group of university students and their professor who will perform the gamelan at the Bali Arts Festival on July 1. I will record performances of the instruments so my students can hear what they sound like, take photos of the instruments and talk with locals about the importance of music in their culture.
I am a music teacher for beginning band students. I would like to teach my students about music of Balinese culture. They will hear examples of the traditional Balinese instruments, how they are played and how the music is notated. Students will compare/contrast Balinese music with traditional Western music and their band instruments.
I will research the different instruments and music styles of Bali before I leave.
