US Reaction To Chinese Takeover of Tibet in 1952

Contributor :

Terry Owens

Action Plan

visit monasteries, talk to people there as much as possible, listen to NGOs (ideas and claims); gather up any primary source documentation possible, pictures, etc

Pre-Departure Preparation

The practice of Buddhism would fit into my unit on world religions. I will incorporate information and primary source documentation wherever possible to have students analyze the levels of unrest and political engagements, comparing and contrasting this in Nepal and Tibet. Because I teach US history as well, I would like to prepare 1 lesson concerning the US reaction to the Tibetan situation since 1952, using primary and secondary sources to allow students to interpret.

Preparation During Travel

I will research the differences in the practice of Buddhism/level and type of political protest in Nepal and Tibet
