I will take close up photographs of trees especially the branches. Tree branches grow exponentially as well. Students can make connections from the picture to the tree and the greater rainforest.
I can show pictures of the rainforest in borneo. Rainforests grow in a fractal pattern. Fractals grow exponentially which leads to an application of exponential growth and decay in mathematics. So the trip would serve as an introduction to study of exponential growth and decay.
I will calculate the area of the rainforest in borneo so that it could be used as the solution to an exponential growth and decay problem.
