I will ask questions about specific uses for plants and fungi by local people in the region. Whether culinary, medicinal, or decorational, I want to discuss the cultural impact of these organisms on the people living there, as well as how they impact others.
I currently teach 5th grade science in Brooklyn. Our 4th Unit is Biology and we study the classification of living things. I will use my experience in Peru to find different examples of organisms such as animals, plants, and fungi found in the Amazon. Photos, video, and accounts from the people I meet along the way will provide new access to these unique species in the Amazon Rainforest.
I will research organisms indigenous to the Peruvian Amazon region to find, document, and experience on my trip.
