Interdisciplinary Unit

Action Plan

I will look for books and souvenirs that my students can learn about Costa Rica from. I will post pictures and share my experiences on my travel blog so the students can follow my adventure!

Pre-Departure Preparation

I teach all subjects in 5th grade. I would like to do a short unit on Costa Rica and integrate all subjects. The students will read books and do research on Costa Rica and respond with writing activities. Also, I will integrate science and social studies through the geography and wildlife of Costa Rica and the history of the country. At the end of the unit, the students will complete a research project choosing an aspect of the new information they learned (ex: wildlife, history, geography, culture, etc…) and present the project to the class.

Preparation During Travel

I will research lesson plans about Costa Rica for elementary school students. Any lesson plans I find can help me decide what kinds of souvenirs or books I can look for to bring back for my class and to help me teach them about the country.
