I will ask locals about cultural traditions and manifestations. For example, I will collect samples of children’s’ stories and document ways in which youth inculcate values. I will seek to observe ways in which artistic expression demonstrates regional pride and tradition and I will look at food and recipes to learn about trade and ways that movement across this region has affected cuisine.
I teach History, as well as Global Studies. I am interested in studying ways that trade and contact across regions have affected the development of cultures in this region. I will look at aspects of The Silk Road trade and I will also look at the more recent historical impact that the Soviet Union had on these countries and cultures. When teaching cultural anthropology I examine the geography, economics, social institutions and values and beliefs of cultures. I am eager to learn as much as I can about these topics to help my students appreciate the rich cultures of Central Asia.
I have been reading about history of this region from books that I have checked out from the library. I am studying forms of cultural expression in these countries.
