Bringing Middle Eastern Literature Into Schools

Contributor :

Debbie Livingston

Action Plan

I will visit classrooms and libraries, and converse with teachers, students, and others to learn about the classic literature and contemporary favorites that are being read by secondary students in Oman and Qatar. I will take pictures and record responses.

Pre-Departure Preparation

I am a teacher-librarian and I would like to share Middle Eastern literature with English classes to support new literature circles and contemporary fiction, nonfiction, graphic novel, and essays/short stories to support Contemporary World Issues (SS Department) classes. I will share photos from my trip to encourage the creation of geo-stories (digital mapping and stories of locations in the books and articles).

Preparation During Travel

I will research young adult literature about the middle east and lessons that incorporate collaborative groups and cultural response perspectives.
