I am taking a weaving class and visiting several weaving and textile co-ops while I am there. I will also be visiting remote villages, Incan ruins, art galleries, museums and the Amazon rainforest.
I am an elementary art teacher and I plan to introduce my students to the art and culture of Peru. Students will compare and contrast Andean textiles with textiles made in our community. Students will create art that reflects the Incan culture, everyday Peruvian life and folk art. I will share my experience within my professional learning communities. The students' artwork will also be featured in the annual school and county art shows.
I plan to visit alpaca farmers, weavers and other textile artists in my area so I can compare their occupations with those of the people in Peru.
