Stories From Other Cultures

Contributor :

Jill Gammon

Action Plan

As appropriate I can inquire from locals regarding oral stories, folktales, and traditional stories told to children.

Pre-Departure Preparation

I see three grade levels weekly for library lessons, ages 3-6. Throughout the school year I like to include stories, oral or written, from different cultures. I show visuals (primarily photographs) of the geography and different aspects of the country's culture prior to sharing the story. I will use my photographs from the trips as well as any souvenirs that I might purchase.

Preparation During Travel

I can search the internet and my resources to see if I can find any folktales or literature from these 4 countries. I can also research the oral story traditions.
