Pythagorean Theorem

Contributor :

Julianne Curro

Action Plan

I will need to take several photos of the pyramids at different angles and also take photos of any other mathematical evidence that can be seen throughout the trip (hieroglyphics of the Egyptian counting system if possible).

Pre-Departure Preparation

I will research and keep notes about the history of the Camino, with its many different paths to Santiago de Compostela. I will research the religious fervor that lead pilgrims to believe that the bones of the apostle James are at the Cathedral. I want to have students understand the Arab and Christian influences that encompassed Spain through hundreds of years and why this path is still followed today.

Preparation During Travel

I will need do research on the various ways that math has been incorporated into Egypt’s culture and its use within the pyramids, particularly pertaining to the Pythagorean Theorem and the golden ratio.
