I will document aspects of regional culture including art, music, and food throughout the tour. I will also seek ways in which the peoples of these regions acknowledge and teach about the recent war.
Pre-Departure Preparation
I teach about this region leading up to WWI, and again during the Cold War. I will document aspects of culture that demonstrate the rich variation of regional expression. I am also interested in cultural memory, including the ways in which war is memorialized, including its role in post-war reconciliation.
Preparation During Travel
I will research regional history, including the recent conflicts of the Balkans.
