Device chargers and electrical adapters (and a converter if needed); portable charger/power bank
Clothing
Personal clothing for cold to warm weather (temperatures vary widely by altitude and time of day). Pack lightweight, quick-dry clothing that mixes and matches easily. Bring enough for about a week and plan to do laundry once. Layer strategically and check the weather and itinerary sections to be realistic about what you'll actually need.
Daypack
Small backpack to carry water, camera, and essentials while exploring
Walking shoes
One good pair of broken-in, comfortable, sturdy walking shoes is essential. Bolivia's terrain includes high-altitude trails and uneven surfaces.
Rain protection
Warm, windproof, and waterproof jacket; essential for both rain and cold, including overnight temperatures on the Salt Flats
Sun protection
Sun block, sunglasses, hat
Flashlight or headlamp
First Aid Kit
Including: lip balm with sunscreen, sunscreen, whistle, Aspirin, Ibuprofen, bandaids, tape, anti-histamines, antibacterial gel/wipes, antiseptic cream, Imodium or similar for mild cases of diarrhea, rehydration powder, water purification tablets or drops, insect repellent, sewing kit, extra prescription drugs you may be taking
Toiletries
Basic toiletries (some hotels may not provide all items, esp. conditioner); small amount of biodegradable soap for laundry
Cold weather clothes
Warm hats, gloves, and scarves are essential for cold temperatures at high altitude and on the Salt Flats
Fleece or down top
A substantial fleece or down layer is essential; temperatures in the Andes drop into the 20s°F at night
Sleeping bag and liner (4-season)
Required for the Salt Flats overnight; available for rent for approximately $5 USD per day (35 BOB)
