Arrive at any time. Aloha! Welcome to Hawaii. There are no planned activities today, so check into the hotel and spend some time exploring Waikiki. We typically have a group meeting at the hotel around 6:00 p.m. Upon arrival at the hotel, please check the notice board for information about the group meeting. During the group meeting, the leader will outline the trip itinerary and answer questions.

This morning we head east to Kane’ohe Bay where we will get to kayak the bay and snorkel the hidden sandbars just nearby. Look for turtles and starfish while you snorkel and kayak, or just paddle and enjoy the views of the bay. Afterward, head back to shore for a traditional Hawaiian barbecue lunch. After lunch, we go back to our hotel where you will have time to check out the area, rest, or take a dip in the pool. Later in the day toast to the setting sun on an evening cruise from Waikiki Beach. Take in the views of Diamond Head and Honolulu, and relax to the sounds of the ocean while slicing through the water. What better way to cap off the day?

Oahu is packed full of things to see and do on this free day. With free time, opt to join the North Shore tour, heading up to Haleiwa town and the north shore food trucks. Or opt to go for a swim at the stunning Hanauma Bay, hike to the top of Diamond Head, take a surf lesson or just hang loose on the beach — Hawaiian-style!

Fly to the island of Maui. Head over to our campground, where we will be staying in beachfront "tentalows". Spend the rest of the day snorkeling or kayaking right off the beach. Tonight, enjoy a campfire with your fellow travelers.

Today, take part in an Outrigger Canoe Surfing tour. Learn about the history and cultural significance of these boats, and then hop aboard, along with some expert paddlers, to surf the waves aboard the canoe. Tonight, opt to attend a Luau! With music, Hula dancing and a  traditional Hawaiian feast feel true Hawaiian hookipa (hospitality) at a local luau. This traditional Hawaiian party is world-famous and is a must-do for any visitor to the islands. Grab a lei and get ready to get down like the locals.

Take a day trip along the "Road to Hana" – this windy road circumnavigates the island and is the only connection to the small town of Hana on the east side of Maui. Stop by black sand beaches, towering waterfalls, and see how the islanders live.

Enjoy a full day at leisure. Opt to join the sunrise Haleakala tour, and if you're really feeling up for an adventure, take an optional helicopter tour over Molokai Island.

Depart at any time. Want more adventure? Book two or more GEEO trips in the same year and receive a discount! GEEO will give you 10% off of the lesser value program(s) (up to 3 programs). Trip Notes
  1. COMBO TRIP: This trip is the first of our two shorter Hawaiian programs that can be combined together. The combined version includes an extra internal flight that connects the two shorter trips. Some people in this group will only participate in one-half of the trip, others will go on to the second half.
  2. BAGGAGE FEES: Please note that on domestic flights within North America, baggage fees are not included in the ticket price and are subject to additional payment at check-in. Should you choose to check a bag on internal flights within Hawaii, the cost is approx. $25 USD (1st checked bag; additional charges if checking more than one bag). Checked bags must be below 50lbs (22.5 kg).We use Hawaii Airlines for our domestic flights on tour. Passengers who enroll in Hawaiian Airlines Rewards Membership program, at least 2 weeks before travel, can reduce the approximate baggage fee from $25USD to $15USD.

Group Leader Description
All GEEO/G Adventures group trips are accompanied by one of G Adventure's group leaders, which they refer to as Chief Experience Officers (CEO). The aim of the group leader is to take the hassle out of your travels and to help you have the best trip possible. They will provide information on the places you are traveling through, offer suggestions for things to do and see, recommend great local eating venues, and introduce you to our local friends. Our itineraries often have plenty of free time to explore on your own. While not being guides in the traditional sense, you can expect them to have a broad general knowledge of the places visited on the trip, including historical, cultural, religious, and social aspects. We also use local guides where we think more specific knowledge will add to the enjoyment of the places we are visiting – we think it’s the best of both worlds.
Fitness Level
This trip includes light walking and hiking that is suitable for most fitness levels.
Single Travelers
Half of the people that travel with GEEO are traveling by themselves, so please don’t worry if you have no one who can join you on your trip. Our pricing is based on double occupancy or, in other words, two people to a room. You never have to pay for a single room unless you want one. GEEO can find you a roommate of the same gender. Most of our trips have a "My Own Room" option, also known as a "Single Supplement," which is an extra fee that will allow you to have a room to yourself. If you want to room alone, please email travel@geeo.org. To see the price for the "My Own Room" option, please click here where you can look up your trip in the extra services spreadsheet. Please note that if you have booked the "My Own Room" option for this tour, you will receive your own single accommodation for all night stops, with the following exceptions: Nights 4 & 5
Transportation
For this trip we use 15-passenger vans for up to 13 people plus the Tour Leader/Driver. For groups of 8 and more travelers, we also use a trailer to carry luggage. These durable vehicles allow us to drive on most types of roads in North America. Each van has a front passenger seat and 4 benches that will accommodate 3 people each with mandatory seat belts to keep us secure and safe. No standing is permitted in these vehicles.

This note will give the details of your Welcome Meeting on Day 1, usually between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., at which you will get a chance to meet your tour leader and other travelers, as well as learn more about how the tour will run. If you don’t see a note, please ask reception for details! Packing List
Please read this article on GEEO’s blog for our staff’s suggestions on the best gear to pack for your upcoming travels. You must be prepared to carry your own bags and be comfortable carrying them up and downstairs, on and off transportation, and to hotels. As a rule, we try not to have to walk more than 15-20 minutes with your bags, which is why we recommend keeping the weight of your bags between 22-30 lb. Most travelers carry a backpack or rolling bag of small to medium size. No XXL bags please! A daypack is also essential for carrying everyday items. Space is limited on transportation, so there is a limit of one main piece of luggage per person plus a daypack per person.

Tipping
It is customary in North America to tip service providers such as waiters, bartenders, and taxi drivers, at approximately 18-20%, depending on the service. Tipping is an expected - though not compulsory - component of your tour program and an expression of satisfaction with the persons who have assisted you on your tour. Although it may not be customary to you, it is of considerable significance to the people who will take care of you during your travels. There are times during the trip where there is an opportunity to tip any local guides used. Recommendations for tipping local guides would range from $2-8 USD per activity depending on the quality and length of the service; ask your CEO for specific recommendations based on the circumstances and culture. Also at the end of each trip, if you felt your G Adventures Tour Leader did an outstanding job, tipping is appreciated. The amount is entirely a personal preference; however, as a guideline $5-10 USD per person, per day can be used as a guide. If your tour leader exceeded your expectations, feel free to tip more.
Flights
We often find the best prices for purchasing flights is 60 days before departure, but of course, this varies greatly from route to route and year to year. You must wait until this trip is confirmed with the minimum number of required participants before you book your flights. Typically, we reach the minimum number needed at least 90 days before departure. GEEO and G Adventures bear no responsibility for any flights purchased before the trip is confirmed. You can find out whether this trip has been confirmed here. You will want to fly into Daniel K. Iouye International Airport or Honolulu International Airport, both in Honolulu. Please double-check our itinerary for the date by which you must arrive in Waikiki. You can arrive at any time of the day you choose, but we strongly urge you to arrive by 6:00 p.m. on Day 1 for the group meeting. You will want to fly home from Kahului Airport any time on the final day of the trip.
Expectations
Before you decide on traveling with GEEO, it is important that you read all of the information about the program you are considering. Remember, our programs are quite adventurous.
  • You must be able to easily carry or roll your luggage, so do not over-pack.
  • Please make sure you have thoroughly read the itinerary and can handle the group activities, which sometimes include day hikes with your daypacks.
  • We recommend always carrying snacks with you.
  • Please make sure you understand the role of your tour leader on this trip as they are not the traditional “guide” you may be expecting. While our trips are educational, they aren’t study/lecture trips. We want you to learn through exploring, and much of your experience will be based on how active you choose to be in acquiring knowledge and interacting with locals.
Hopefully this is the kind of adventure you are interested in!
